This afternoon (Friday, June 14) a large bee hive was located in a tree near the round-about across from Malibu Hall off Chapel Drive. Two different bee experts viewed the hive and determined it had the characteristics of an African bee species, although they could not say for sure. African bee species can be aggressive and dangerous if disturbed. University Police and Ventura County Fire Department responded and surveyed the situation, but could not facilitate the removal of the hive. Police have cordoned off the area with yellow barrier tape and message boards are in place to warn against entry of the area. An outside contractor has been contacted and arrangements are being made to remove the hive as soon as possible. In the meantime, Police personnel will be monitoring the area to keep people away from the cordoned off area.  Please avoid Chapel Drive and certainly do not enter the cordoned off area currently secured with yellow barrier tape. Thank you.
